Avoiding Credit Card Fraud
- Don’t give out your credit card number(s) online unless the site is a secure and reputable site. Membership of Net Patrol is a good indication.
- A claim of secure is not enough.
- Check out the security/encryption software it uses.
- Purchasing merchandise from a reputable source, feedback from other customers should be validated.
- Do your homework on seller.
- Obtain a physical address rather than merely a post office box and a phone number, call the seller to see if the number is correct and working.
- Send seller e-mails to see if they respond. Be wary of sellers who use a free e-mail services.
- Consider not purchasing from sellers who are not members of Net Patrol.
- Do internet searhes regarding this person/company.
- Don’t judge a person/company just by their web site.
- Be cautious of unsolicited e-mail.
- Make sure the site is secure when you electronically send your credit card numbers.
- Keep a list of your credit cards and account information and card issuer’s contact information. If anything looks suspicious you should contact the card issuer immediately.
